How to Get Anonymous STD Testing in Singapore?

Taking care of your sexual health is essential to your overall well-being, but for many people the thought of STD testing brings concerns about privacy and judgement. That is why it helps to understand the testing options available in Singapore before you book.

At Mediway Medical, we offer discreet STD testing for HIV, HPV, herpes simplex and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs). We do not offer anonymous testing. This guide explains the difference between the two, so you can choose the option that suits you.

We’ll cover what anonymous testing is, how it differs from discreet testing, and how Mediway’s discreet testing can help you take that first step towards peace of mind.

What Is Anonymous STD Testing?

Anonymous STD testing is a service in which your personal details (e.g. name, NRIC or address) are not recorded or linked to your test results.

It suits people who want complete anonymity when managing their sexual health.

What Is Anonymous STD Testing

Anonymous vs. Confidential Testing

  • Anonymous Testing keeps your identity entirely hidden. Your STD test results are not connected to you in any identifiable way.
  • Confidential Testing also protects your privacy but associates your results with your name and identity. This information is securely stored by your healthcare provider.

Why Anonymity Matters in STD Testing

The stigma surrounding STDs often prevents people from seeking the care they need. Anonymous STD testing removes this barrier, encouraging more individuals to take advantage of STD testing and screening services. By offering a discreet and stress-free option, it empowers people to stay proactive about their sexual health.

Why Is Anonymity Important?

Despite advancements in healthcare education, STIs continue to carry a social stigma. Anonymous testing provides a safe option for individuals who might otherwise avoid getting tested due to judgement or embarrassment.

Knowing your privacy is safeguarded builds trust and makes the testing experience less daunting. Anonymous STD testing provides complete discretion, allowing you to focus on your health without fear of exposure.

The emotional relief of knowing your testing experience is private can reduce anxiety and make individuals more likely to seek timely treatment or follow-ups if needed.

Types of STD Tests Available

Types of STD Tests

Whether you choose anonymous or discreet testing, the tests themselves are the same. Common options include:

  • HIV Testing: rapid HIV tests and laboratory-based tests to detect HIV early. After a recent exposure, Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) may be appropriate. PEP must be started within 72 hours, and Mediway does not provide PEP; it is available at any 24-hour hospital A&E department and at the DSC Clinic. In Singapore, anonymous HIV testing is offered at MOH-approved anonymous test sites. At Mediway, HIV testing is discreet, not anonymous.
  • HPV Testing: Essential for women, this test screens for high-risk HPV strains that are linked to cervical cancer.
  • Syphilis, Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia Testing: Detects bacterial STIs that, if identified early, can be effectively treated with antibiotics.
  • Herpes Simplex Virus (Types 1 & 2): Identifies oral or genital herpes, enabling proper symptom management and care.

Rapid Tests vs. Laboratory Tests

Rapid Tests vs. Laboratory Tests

  • Rapid Tests: can give results in about 30 minutes, which helps if you want a quick answer. Ask our team which rapid tests are available when you book.
  • Laboratory Tests: Deliver more detailed and comprehensive results, typically within a few days, and are recommended for thorough screenings.

Accuracy of Anonymous STD Testing

Anonymous STD tests, including HIV tests, use the same diagnostic methods as named or discreet tests, so the results are equally reliable. The only difference is how your personal details are recorded, not how the test is done.

At Mediway Medical, we offer discreet STD testing, not anonymous testing. Your results stay confidential, and our doctors can guide you through any next steps.

The Difference Between Anonymous and Discreet STD Testing

Both options protect your privacy, but they work differently:

  • Anonymous testing collects no personal information, such as your name or NRIC. Your result cannot be traced back to you.
  • Discreet testing records your identity in the clinic’s medical records. This allows proper follow-up, treatment and referrals if needed. Your information is kept confidential and is not shared without your consent, except where the law requires it.

Anonymous testing suits people who want total anonymity. Discreet testing suits people who want privacy along with continuity of care, such as follow-up consultations, treatment and records for future reference.

Mediway provides discreet testing only. If you need fully anonymous HIV testing, please visit an MOH-approved anonymous test site.

How Mediway Supports Discreet STD Testing

At Mediway Medical, we aim to provide a safe, discreet and judgement-free environment for your sexual health needs.

Discreet and Professional Care

Our doctors handle every visit with respect and confidentiality. We do not provide anonymous STD testing, but our discreet testing keeps your information private while letting us support you with follow-up care.

Convenient Visits

We aim to keep your visit straightforward, whether it is a routine check or a specific concern. Please contact us to check current availability and whether an appointment is needed.

Clear Next Steps

Where rapid tests are suitable, you may receive some results on the same day. Laboratory tests take longer, and our team will confirm the expected timing when you book. Our doctors can arrange a follow-up consultation to explain your results and any next steps.

STD Screening Services at Mediway Medical

We offer several screening options, depending on your needs:

  • STD Screen Profiles: screening for common STIs such as syphilis, gonorrhoea and chlamydia.
  • STD Liver Profiles: a broader option that also checks for infections affecting the liver, such as hepatitis.
  • Urine Analysis: a non-invasive way to test for certain bacterial STIs.

Your doctor can advise which option is appropriate for you. See STD testing at Mediway.

Preparing for Your STD Test in Singapore

Getting tested for STDs is an essential step in safeguarding your health and well-being. With proper preparation, the process can be seamless, providing you with the clarity and peace of mind you deserve.

Preparing for Your STD Test Singapore

Choosing where to test: if you need fully anonymous HIV testing, visit an MOH-approved anonymous test site. The Ministry of Health publishes the current list of approved sites. If you prefer discreet testing with follow-up care, you can book with us.

For Women

  • If undergoing a cervical swab test, ensure you are not on your menstrual period, as this can interfere with the accuracy of the test results. If you are unsure about timing, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.
  • Avoid douching, using vaginal creams, or inserting any products (such as tampons) for at least 24 hours before your appointment. These can alter the natural balance of the area and affect test outcomes.

For Men

  • For urine tests, it is important to avoid urinating for at least two hours before your test. This allows for a more concentrated sample, which can improve the accuracy of results and help detect any potential issues more effectively. If this is difficult, let your healthcare provider know.

Frequently Asked Questions

01 Where Can I Get Anonymous STD Testing in Singapore?

Mediway Medical does not provide anonymous STD testing. In Singapore, anonymous HIV testing is offered at MOH-approved anonymous test sites. At Mediway, we provide discreet STD testing: your details are kept confidential, and you have access to follow-up care if needed.

02 Are Anonymous Tests as Reliable as Regular STD Tests?

Yes. Anonymous testing uses the same diagnostic methods, so results are equally reliable.

03 How Long Does It Take to Get Results?

Turnaround depends on the tests you take. Rapid tests can give results the same day, while laboratory tests take longer. Our team will confirm the expected timing when you book.

04 Can I Use My Health Insurance for Anonymous Testing?

Health insurance typically requires identifiable information, so it might not apply to anonymous testing.

05 What Should I Do if My Test Results Are Positive?
