What travel vaccines do I need?

Travel vaccines depend on your destination, duration of stay, planned activities, and medical history. Common vaccines for Southeast Asia include Hepatitis A and B and Typhoid. For Africa: often Yellow Fever, Meningococcal, Typhoid. For Hajj/Umrah: Meningococcal ACWY is required. For rural/adventure travel: add Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies. At Mediway we administer Hepatitis A and B on-site; for other travel vaccines we provide pre-travel guidance and refer you to a specialised travel clinic. Pre-travel consultation is $38. Plan 4-6 weeks before travel: some vaccines need multiple doses over weeks.

Plan 4-6 weeks before travel: here's why

Travel vaccines take time to take effect, and many require multiple doses. Last-minute vaccination is still worthwhile, but earlier is always safer.

6 weeks before travel

Initial pre-travel consultation. Review destination, duration, activities. Start multi-dose schedules: Hepatitis B (3 doses at 0, 1, 6 months) is administered on-site at Mediway. Other multi-dose vaccines such as Rabies (3 doses at 0, 7, 21 days) and Japanese Encephalitis (2 doses over 4 weeks) are not offered at Mediway; we refer you to a specialised travel clinic to start these schedules.

4 weeks before travel

Hepatitis A (single-dose, on-site at Mediway) starts to take effect within 2 weeks. Other single-dose travel vaccines (Typhoid, Meningococcal ACWY, Yellow Fever) require a specialised travel clinic or WHO-certified centre.

2 weeks before travel

Additional doses of multi-dose schedules if relevant. Final pre-travel health check. Pick up malaria prophylaxis tablets if required for destination.

Day of travel

Bring International Certificate of Vaccination (Yellow Card) if visiting yellow fever countries. Bring Meningococcal certificate for Hajj/Umrah. Keep records of all travel vaccines in case asked at border.

Travelling last-minute? Still worthwhile. Single-dose vaccines offer partial protection within days. We'll prioritise the most important vaccines for your destination and start multi-dose schedules you can complete abroad or after return. Call 6909 0190 or WhatsApp us for urgent travel advice.

1

Consultation ($38)

Review destination, itinerary, activities, medical history, and existing vaccination records. Receive a personalised vaccination schedule.

2

On-site administration (Hep A and B) or referral

Hepatitis A and B can be administered on the same visit. For other travel vaccines, your GP gives you a written referral note and guidance on which specialised travel clinic to visit. Yellow Fever in particular requires a WHO-designated centre that can issue the International Certificate of Vaccination.

3

Records

Hepatitis A and B doses administered at Mediway are submitted to the National Immunisation Registry (NIR) and appear on HealthHub after processing. Paper certificates for Yellow Fever (Yellow Card) and Meningococcal ACWY (for Hajj) are issued by the centre that administers those vaccines, not by Mediway.

What to bring: NRIC or passport, existing vaccination records (Yellow Card if previously vaccinated for yellow fever), travel itinerary, list of current medications. Inform us of any allergies, pregnancy status, or chronic conditions before vaccination.

Frequently asked questions

01 How much do travel vaccinations cost in Singapore?

At Mediway, Hepatitis A is from $120 per dose, Hepatitis B from $60 per dose, and the pre-travel GP consultation is $38 for the first visit. Mediway does not administer the other common travel vaccines (typhoid, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, Meningococcal ACWY, cholera, yellow fever); pricing for those vaccines is set by the specialised travel clinic you are referred to. Yellow fever in particular is only available at certified yellow fever vaccination centres in Singapore. All prices are subject to change. Please contact us for the latest pricing.

02 How far in advance should I plan travel vaccinations?

Ideally, plan travel vaccinations 4-6 weeks before travel. Some vaccines need multiple doses over several weeks, while others need time to take effect. Yellow fever certificates become valid 10 days after vaccination. Last-minute travel vaccinations may still be useful, but earlier planning gives more time to complete the appropriate schedule.

03 Does Mediway offer yellow fever vaccination?

Yellow fever vaccination is only available at certified yellow fever vaccination centres in Singapore, as these centres can issue the International Certificate of Vaccination, also known as the Yellow Card. Mediway can provide pre-travel consultation and refer you to a certified centre where appropriate. You may refer to ICA's official yellow fever vaccination certificate guidance for certified centre information.

04 Which countries require yellow fever vaccination?

Yellow fever vaccination requirements depend on your destination, transit route, and recent travel history. Some countries require proof of yellow fever vaccination if you are arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever risk area. Check your destination's latest entry requirements before travel and bring your International Certificate of Vaccination if required.

05 What vaccines do I need for Hajj or Umrah?

Saudi Arabia requires Meningococcal ACWY vaccination for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims, with proof of vaccination required. The vaccine should be completed at least 10 days before travel. Requirements may change, so check the latest Saudi and Singapore guidance before booking. Additional vaccines such as influenza, Hepatitis A or B, and Tdap may be discussed based on your itinerary and health background.

06 Can I combine travel vaccines in one visit?

At Mediway, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B can be administered in the same visit at different injection sites. Other travel vaccines you may need (typhoid, Japanese encephalitis, rabies, Meningococcal ACWY, cholera, yellow fever) are administered at a specialised travel clinic, which can typically combine multiple injections in one appointment as well. Your Mediway GP advises on prioritisation if you have a short window before travel.

07 Do I need travel vaccines for Southeast Asia?

Travel vaccine needs for Southeast Asia depend on destination, trip duration, rural exposure, food and water risk, animal contact, and planned activities. Commonly discussed vaccines may include Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, typhoid, Japanese encephalitis for rural or extended stays, and rabies for higher-risk activities or animal exposure. Routine vaccines such as MMR, Tdap, polio, and influenza should also be up to date.

08 What if I'm travelling last-minute?

Last-minute travel vaccination may still be useful. Some single-dose vaccines can be given close to travel, while multi-dose schedules can be started before departure and completed later if appropriate. Some vaccines or certificates, such as yellow fever, require a minimum period before they are considered valid. Contact us early if your travel date is near.

09 Will travel vaccines appear on my NIR / HealthHub record?

Vaccines administered at Mediway are submitted to the National Immunisation Registry where applicable and may appear on HealthHub after processing. Some travel-specific vaccines or certificates may also require separate paper documentation for travel, such as the International Certificate of Vaccination for yellow fever. Always keep any paper certificates needed for international travel.
