What is an ECDA Medical Check Up?
The ECDA medical check up is a pre-employment health examination required by Singapore’s Early Childhood Development Agency for educators, infant-care staff, and other workers in licenced early childhood settings. It confirms that new and returning staff are medically fit and free from communicable diseases before they begin or resume work with children.
How it works at Mediway Medical Centre
The ECDA medical examination is completed as a single in-clinic visit. Our GP conducts the physical examination, performs the chest X-ray on-site, arranges blood tests for Hepatitis B, Measles, Rubella, and Varicella immunity, and signs the ECDA Pre-employment Medical Examination Form. We have provided pre-employment medical check ups for ECDA-licenced centres, preschools, and kindergartens since 2016.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the most common questions about ECDA medical check ups at Mediway, grouped by when they typically come up.
01 How long does the ECDA medical check up take?
The ECDA medical check up at Mediway typically takes 30 to 45 minutes in-clinic, covering GP consultation, physical examination, chest X-ray, and blood draw for immunity testing. The ECDA medical form is completed and signed the same day. Laboratory results for Hepatitis B and MMRV immunity are usually ready within 2 to 3 working days.
02 What should I bring to my appointment?
Bring a printed or digital copy of the ECDA Pre-employment Medical Examination Form provided by your employer, your NRIC or FIN, and any available immunisation records. Prior vaccination records for Hepatitis B, Measles, Rubella, or Varicella may reduce the need for immunity blood tests.
03 Do I need to fast before the check up?
Fasting is not required for the standard ECDA medical check up. You can eat and drink normally beforehand. Fasting is only needed if your employer’s form also requests a lipid panel or fasting glucose. Let our reception know at booking if additional tests have been requested.
04 Do I need a referral from my employer or centre?
No referral is required. You can book an ECDA medical check up directly with Mediway Medical Centre. Simply bring the ECDA Pre-employment Medical Examination Form supplied by your centre or employer, and our doctor will complete and sign it during your visit.
05 How soon is my ECDA form ready?
The ECDA form is signed, stamped, and handed back to you before you leave the clinic, thanks to our on-site X-ray facility and in-clinic consultation. If your employer’s form requires attached lab reports for Hepatitis B or MMRV, those arrive within 2 to 3 working days and can be couriered or emailed to you or your employer on request.
06 What if my Hepatitis B, MMR, or Varicella immunity is not up to date?
If your serology results show low or absent immunity, our GP will discuss booster vaccinations during your consultation. Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella vaccines can be administered at Mediway either on the same visit or at a scheduled follow-up, depending on clinical suitability. Vaccine pricing is additional to the $55 ECDA package. Please contact us for current vaccine prices.
07 Do I need to redo the ECDA medical every year?
The ECDA pre-employment medical examination is generally a one-time check at the point of hire. Staff who have previously been certified fit using the ECDA form usually do not need to repeat the medical when moving between licenced centres. Some employers or programmes may request periodic health screenings; check with your HR team if you are unsure.
08 How does the ECDA medical differ from a regular pre-employment medical?
A standard pre-employment medical check up covers general health, commonly for office, service, or corporate employment. The ECDA medical is tailored to early childhood settings: it places specific emphasis on chest X-ray for tuberculosis screening and immunity to Hepatitis B, Measles, Rubella, and Varicella, reflecting the close contact with young children. The ECDA-specific form is also a key part of the package.
