How much does an ultrasound scan cost in Singapore?

General ultrasound scans (thyroid, kidneys, breast) are at the lower end ($136-$201). Vascular and specialised musculoskeletal scans are at the higher end ($327-$680). GP consultation at Mediway is $38. See pricing tables below. All prices GST-inclusive.
What is an ultrasound scan?
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of tissues, organs, and blood vessels. Because it uses no ionising radiation, ultrasound is considered very safe. It is the first-choice imaging for pregnancy and can be repeated as often as clinically needed.
A handheld probe (transducer) is placed on the skin with a gel that helps the sound waves travel. The probe sends out sound waves, captures the echoes that return, and a computer builds an image from those signals. Modern ultrasound includes Doppler (measuring blood flow), colour Doppler (mapping flow direction), and advanced techniques like shear wave elastography (measuring tissue stiffness).
At Mediway Medical Centre, ultrasound scans are arranged through our referral network. Your GP assesses symptoms, recommends the right ultrasound type, and issues a referral letter to our accredited imaging partner. Results return to us. You review findings with the Mediway GP at a follow-up consultation.

How to get an ultrasound at Mediway
Three-step process. Coordination and interpretation happen at Mediway; the scan is performed at our accredited imaging partner.
Consultation ($38)
GP assesses symptoms, recommends the right ultrasound type, and issues a referral letter. We advise on preparation (fasting, full bladder, etc.) specific to your scan.
Scan at partner centre
Attend Radlink, our accredited imaging partner. Scan takes 15-45 minutes depending on body area and complexity. Partner's pricing applies to the scan.
Report & review at Mediway
Partner radiologist's report returns in 3-7 working days. Return to Mediway for a follow-up consultation. The doctor explains findings and coordinates next steps.
3D / 4D pregnancy ultrasound
Mediway does not arrange 3D / 4D pregnancy ultrasound. These are typically provided by OBGYN clinics or specialised imaging centres that focus on obstetric imaging. If you need pregnancy ultrasound, we recommend seeing your obstetrician directly. We can provide a referral letter if helpful.
How to prepare
Preparation depends on the scan type. Your GP advises during consultation. The summary below is a general guide.
On the day: arrive 10-15 minutes early, wear loose clothing, bring your referral letter, ID, and any prior imaging results. If you are pregnant or might be pregnant, inform the sonographer before the scan.
Frequently asked questions
01 How much does an ultrasound scan cost in Singapore?
Ultrasound prices in Singapore typically range from $136 to over $680 depending on the body area and scan type. General ultrasound (thyroid, kidneys, breast) is at the lower end ($136-$201). Vascular and specialised musculoskeletal ultrasound is at the higher end ($327-$680). Plus $38 GP consultation at Mediway. All prices GST-inclusive. Prices are subject to change and may vary depending on individual clinical needs. Please contact us for the latest pricing.
02 Is ultrasound safe? Does it use radiation?
Yes, ultrasound is generally considered safe when used for medical purposes. It uses high-frequency sound waves (not ionising radiation) to produce images. There is no radiation exposure, which is why ultrasound is commonly used in pregnancy monitoring and can be repeated when clinically appropriate.
03 Do I need a referral for an ultrasound?
Yes, in most cases. A Mediway GP consultation ($38) helps assess your symptoms, check which ultrasound type is appropriate, and provide a referral letter to the imaging provider. The referral helps the imaging provider arrange the correct scan protocol.
04 How long does an ultrasound scan take?
15-45 minutes depending on complexity. Thyroid and breast typically 15-20 minutes; abdomen 20-30 minutes; vascular or musculoskeletal studies 30-45 minutes. Results return in 3-7 working days.
05 Do I need to prepare for an ultrasound?
Preparation depends on the scan. Abdominal ultrasound may require fasting (typically 6-8 hours). Pelvic ultrasound may require a full bladder. Thyroid, breast, and musculoskeletal ultrasound usually need little or no preparation. Your GP or the imaging provider will advise specific preparation instructions before your appointment.
06 Can I use Medisave for ultrasound?
Medisave use depends on the scan type, clinical indication, approved provider, and current claim rules. It may apply to selected diagnostic ultrasound procedures when ordered for clinical investigation, but not every ultrasound or screening use is claimable. Please confirm eligibility with the imaging provider before the scan.
07 Does Mediway offer 3D or 4D pregnancy ultrasound?
No. 3D and 4D pregnancy ultrasound is typically provided by OBGYN clinics or specialised imaging centres. For pregnancy-specific ultrasound, we recommend seeing your obstetrician directly. We can provide a referral letter if helpful.
08 Will Mediway interpret my ultrasound results?
Yes. The imaging provider provides a radiologist report. You return to Mediway for a follow-up consultation where the GP explains findings in plain language, flags anything needing action, and coordinates next steps, including specialist referral if appropriate.
09 What is the difference between breast ultrasound and mammogram?
Mammogram uses low-dose X-ray and is commonly used for breast cancer screening based on age, risk factors, and doctor's advice. Breast ultrasound uses sound waves and is often used to assess breast lumps and for women with dense breast tissue. In some cases both tests may be used together. Please speak with your doctor about which test is appropriate for you. See our breast ultrasound vs mammogram guide for details.
10 Is ultrasound covered by private insurance?
Private insurance coverage varies by policy and whether the ultrasound is ordered for symptom investigation or screening. Ultrasound ordered for symptom investigation may be covered depending on your policy. We provide itemised receipts for insurance claim submission.
