How much does premarital screening cost in Singapore?

Premarital screening at Mediway Medical Centre costs $130–$290 per person. Eternity (pre-conception screen only) is $130 for men and $150 for women. Eternity+ (pre-conception plus fertility hormones) is $290 for either. Results in 3-5 days. Consultation is optional, $38 per consult — book a pre-test consult, a post-results consult, or both (each billed separately). All prices are GST-inclusive.

What premarital screening covers

Three areas that matter before marriage and pregnancy: infectious diseases that can affect you or a future child, genetic carrier status (especially thalassemia, common in Southeast Asian populations), and blood group compatibility.

Infectious disease screen

HIV, syphilis (VDRL), hepatitis A/B/C: infections that can be transmitted to a partner or a child during pregnancy or birth. Rubella immunity confirmed for women, as rubella during pregnancy can cause serious fetal harm.

Genetic carrier status

Haemoglobin electrophoresis screens for thalassemia carrier status. Singapore MOH recommends this because Southeast Asian populations have notably higher thalassemia carrier rates, and if both partners carry, there is a 25% chance per pregnancy of a child with thalassemia major.

Blood group & compatibility

ABO and Rh blood typing for both partners. Matters for pregnancy: Rh-negative women carrying an Rh-positive baby may need RhoGAM to prevent haemolytic disease of the newborn. We include full blood count and thyroid function as general pre-conception baselines.

Eternity+ adds a fertility hormone panel on top of the pre-conception screen, useful if you want both premarital screening and fertility assessment in a single visit.

Eternity vs Eternity+: which one?

Both cover pre-conception health. Eternity+ adds fertility hormone assessment on top.

Eternity Pre-conception only

Choose Eternity if:

  • You want the standard pre-marital health screen (infectious, genetic, blood group)
  • You are not yet actively trying to conceive
  • You have had recent fertility-related testing elsewhere, or want to defer fertility assessment
  • Budget-conscious entry into premarital screening

Eternity+ Premarital + fertility

Choose Eternity+ if:

  • You are planning to conceive within the next 12 months
  • You want pre-marital screening and fertility assessment in one visit
  • You are 30 or older and want a baseline fertility hormone profile
  • Either partner has known or suspected fertility concerns

For couples: how testing works

You can book together or individually. The clinical workflow is the same either way, with a joint result review if both partners test at Mediway.

Why premarital screening matters in Singapore

Premarital screening is not legally mandatory in Singapore, but the Ministry of Health recommends it, especially for thalassemia carrier status, which is more prevalent in Southeast Asian populations.

Thalassemia carrier rates: Southeast Asian populations have elevated β-thalassemia and α-thalassemia carrier rates compared with many other regions. Two carrier partners have a 25% chance per pregnancy of a child with thalassemia major, a serious, lifelong condition requiring regular blood transfusions.
Hepatitis B prevalence: Singapore has historically had meaningful hepatitis B prevalence. Knowing both partners' status allows for vaccination if one is non-immune, and informed decisions around protection during pregnancy.
Rubella immunity: MOH recommends confirming rubella immunity before pregnancy. Rubella during the first trimester can cause congenital rubella syndrome with serious fetal harm. Vaccination is available if non-immune.
HIV and syphilis: Pre-conception testing allows informed decisions about transmission risk and treatment. Modern antiviral treatment can effectively prevent transmission when identified and managed appropriately.
Blood group compatibility: Rh-negative women carrying an Rh-positive baby may need RhoGAM to prevent haemolytic disease of the newborn. Baseline ABO and Rh typing informs pregnancy care.
Timing: We recommend screening 3-6 months before marriage or planned conception, so there is time to act on findings (vaccinations, follow-up testing, or treatment) before pregnancy.

What your results mean

The doctor will walk you through your specific markers at the result-review visit.

Normal / immune

All markers within reference range, rubella immunity confirmed (women), no infectious markers detected, no thalassemia carrier status. We discuss routine pre-conception planning and (if Eternity+) fertility baseline interpretation.

Borderline / actionable

One or more markers needing attention that are addressable: for example, hepatitis B non-immune status (vaccination recommended), thalassemia carrier identified (partner testing and genetic counselling suggested), rubella non-immune (vaccination needed before conception).

Clinically significant

Clearly abnormal findings: active hepatitis, HIV-positive, significant fertility abnormalities. Referred to the appropriate specialist (hepatologist, infectious disease, genetic counsellor, fertility clinic) with a clear summary so the specialist can continue from where we leave off.

We do not offer: IVF, IUI, genetic counselling (referred out to a qualified genetic counsellor), or treatment for confirmed infectious diseases beyond standard primary care. Our role is screening, interpretation, and connecting you to the right specialist. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for diagnosis and treatment decisions.

Frequently asked questions

01 How much does premarital screening cost in Singapore?

At Mediway, Eternity (pre-conception screen) is $130 for men and $150 for women. Eternity+ (pre-conception plus fertility hormones) is $290 for either. Consultation is optional and not required for screening — book the screening online. Each consult is $38 (pre-test or post-results), billed separately — you can choose one or both; to book a consult, WhatsApp admin 8652 6888. There is no couples bundle discount, but if both partners test at Mediway, a joint result review can be arranged. All prices are GST-inclusive and subject to change.

02 What is the difference between Eternity and Eternity+?

Eternity covers pre-conception health: infectious diseases (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis A/B/C), genetic carrier status (thalassaemia), blood group, thyroid, and for women, rubella immunity. Eternity+ adds fertility hormone assessment (FSH, LH, Estradiol, Prolactin, SHBG, plus Progesterone for women or Testosterone and seminal analysis for men).

03 Should we both test before marriage?

Testing together is recommended but not required. You can book as a couple or individually. If you both test, we arrange a joint result review so you receive a combined picture of compatibility and pre-conception readiness. This matters more for premarital screening than solo health checks because thalassaemia risk and blood group compatibility are couple-level findings. Individual results remain confidential unless you consent to a joint review.

04 When should we do premarital screening before our wedding?

Ideally 3 to 6 months before marriage. This timing allows space to act on findings: hepatitis B or rubella vaccinations take 4 to 8 weeks to take effect, thalassaemia genetic counselling can take 2 to 4 weeks to arrange, and any abnormal infectious markers may need follow-up testing. Some couples also screen after marriage but before trying to conceive.

05 Do we need to fast for premarital blood tests?

Most premarital markers (hepatitis, HIV, thalassaemia, thyroid, rubella) do not require fasting. Blood group and haematology are also non-fasting. If we are checking lipid-adjacent markers or have specific thyroid concerns, we may advise a short fast. Confirm during consultation.

06 When will our premarital results be ready?

3 to 5 working days for most markers. We notify both partners when results are ready and arrange the review consultation. Plan your visit at least 2 weeks before any vaccination or counselling referral deadline so there is time for follow-up action.

07 Is premarital screening mandatory in Singapore?

No, premarital screening is not legally mandatory in Singapore. However, screening can be useful for couples planning marriage or pregnancy, especially for conditions such as thalassaemia carrier status, infectious diseases, and rubella immunity.

08 What happens if my partner and I are both thalassaemia carriers?

If both partners are thalassaemia carriers, there is a 25% chance each pregnancy produces a child with thalassaemia major. We refer couples in this situation to a genetic counsellor to discuss options and implications for family planning.

09 Should we also do fertility testing?

If you are actively planning to conceive soon, Eternity+ includes fertility hormones alongside pre-conception screening. If you want dedicated fertility testing only (without the full pre-conception screen), see our Fertility Test service with the Blossom packages.

10 Are premarital screening results confidential, and will they be shared with my partner?

Your results are confidential to you. All medical records and results are kept private in accordance with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and medical confidentiality standards. If both partners test at Mediway, a joint result review can be arranged only with your explicit consent. You can receive your results privately first and decide what you wish to share.
