What travel vaccines do I need?

Travel vaccines depend on your destination, duration of stay, planned activities, and medical history. Common vaccines for Southeast Asia include Hepatitis A/B and Typhoid. For Africa: often Yellow Fever, Meningococcal, Typhoid. For Hajj/Umrah: Meningococcal ACWY is required. For rural/adventure travel: add Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies. Pre-travel consultation at Mediway ($38) creates a personalised schedule. Plan 4-6 weeks before travel: some vaccines need multiple doses over weeks.

Plan 4-6 weeks before travel: here's why

Travel vaccines take time to take effect, and many require multiple doses. Last-minute vaccination is still worthwhile, but earlier is always safer.

6 weeks before travel

Initial pre-travel consultation. Review destination, duration, activities. Start multi-dose schedules: Hepatitis B (3 doses at 0-1-6 months), Rabies (3 doses at 0-7-21 days), Japanese encephalitis (2 doses over 4 weeks).

4 weeks before travel

Single-dose vaccines start to take effect: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, Meningococcal (ACWY). Yellow fever vaccination at certified centre (certificate valid from day 10 for life).

2 weeks before travel

Additional doses of multi-dose schedules if relevant. Final pre-travel health check. Pick up malaria prophylaxis tablets if required for destination.

Day of travel

Bring International Certificate of Vaccination (Yellow Card) if visiting yellow fever countries. Bring Meningococcal certificate for Hajj/Umrah. Keep records of all travel vaccines in case asked at border.

Travelling last-minute? Still worthwhile. Single-dose vaccines offer partial protection within days. We'll prioritise the most important vaccines for your destination and start multi-dose schedules you can complete abroad or after return. Call 6909 0190 or WhatsApp us for urgent travel advice.

For yellow fever, we provide pre-travel consultation and refer you to a WHO-certified centre that can issue the International Certificate of Vaccination. Refer to the official ICA list of certified centres at https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-transit-depart/entering-singapore/yellow-fever-vaccination-certificate.

Frequently asked questions

How much do travel vaccinations cost in Singapore?

Travel vaccination pricing varies by vaccine. Typhoid is from $45 per dose, Hepatitis A from $95 per dose, Japanese encephalitis (Imojev) from $310 per dose, Rabies from $255 per dose, and Meningococcal ACWY from $100 per dose. Yellow fever at WHO-certified centres is typically $230-$270. Mediway GP consultation is $38 first visit.

How far in advance should I plan?

Ideally 4-6 weeks before travel. Multi-dose schedules (Hep B, Rabies) need weeks. Yellow fever needs 10 days to reach certificate validity. Last-minute is still possible but earlier is safer.

Does Mediway offer yellow fever vaccination?

For yellow fever, we provide pre-travel consultation and refer you to a WHO-certified centre that can issue the International Certificate of Vaccination. Refer to the official ICA list of certified centres at https://www.ica.gov.sg/enter-transit-depart/entering-singapore/yellow-fever-vaccination-certificate.

Which countries require yellow fever vaccination?

Many sub-Saharan African and South American countries require it for entry, or if you are travelling from a yellow fever risk area. Check the WHO yellow fever country list or destination-specific entry requirements.

What vaccines do I need for Hajj or Umrah?

Saudi Arabia requires Meningococcal ACWY vaccination for all pilgrims. Must be ≥10 days before arrival. Additional recommended: seasonal flu, Hepatitis A and B, Tdap.

Are travel vaccines MediSave-claimable?

Most travel-specific vaccines (yellow fever, JE, rabies, typhoid) are NOT covered under NAIS and not MediSave-claimable. Hepatitis A and B may be MediSave-claimable when ordered for clinical indication. Confirm at consultation.

Can I combine travel vaccines in one visit?

Yes. Multiple vaccines at different injection sites. We prioritise time-sensitive (yellow fever, JE) and multi-dose (Hep B, rabies) for first visit; less urgent at follow-up.

Do I need travel vaccines for Southeast Asia?

Yes, typically Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, and Japanese encephalitis (for rural/extended stays). Routine vaccines (MMR, Tdap, flu) up to date. Rabies for extended or high-risk activities.

What if I'm travelling last-minute?

Still worthwhile. Single-dose vaccines give partial protection quickly. Multi-dose can start with protection building over trip. Yellow fever needs 10 days. Plan accordingly. Call 6909 0190 or WhatsApp for urgent advice.

Will travel vaccines appear on HealthHub?

Yes for vaccines uploaded to NIR. Travel-specific (yellow fever, JE) may be recorded as paper certificates separately. International Certificate of Vaccination (Yellow Card) is the globally-recognised proof. Keep it safe.
