Conditions we treat on-site
Treatment for all common STDs seen in Singapore is available directly at our clinic, with no external referral needed for the conditions below.
Chlamydia
Single or short-course antibioticSingapore's most commonly reported bacterial STD, often asymptomatic. Treatment at Mediway is typically a single dose of azithromycin or a 7-day course of doxycycline, dispensed on-site. Retest at 4 weeks post-treatment to confirm clearance.
Full guide on chlamydia →Gonorrhoea
Injection + oral antibioticBacterial infection affecting the genitals, throat, and rectum. Rising antibiotic resistance means dual therapy is standard: a ceftriaxone injection plus oral azithromycin, administered same-day. Partner testing and treatment are essential.
Full guide on gonorrhoea →Syphilis
Penicillin protocol, stage-dependentProgresses through primary, secondary, latent, and tertiary stages. Treatment is a benzathine penicillin injection. Dose and frequency depend on the stage at diagnosis. Follow-up VDRL blood tests at 6 and 12 months confirm clearance.
Full guide on syphilis →Mycoplasma genitalium
Targeted antibioticLesser-known but increasingly recognised cause of urethritis and pelvic inflammation. Treatment is a targeted antibiotic regimen (typically azithromycin or moxifloxacin) guided by resistance patterns. Test of cure advised at 4 weeks.
Full guide on mycoplasma genitalium →Ureaplasma
Culture-guided antibioticBacterial organism that can cause urethritis and vaginitis in some patients; often detected alongside other infections. Treatment is usually a 7 to 14 day course of doxycycline or azithromycin, culture-guided where resistance is suspected.
Full guide on ureaplasma →Non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU)
Empirical antibioticUrethral inflammation not caused by gonorrhoea, often linked to chlamydia, mycoplasma, or ureaplasma. Treatment starts empirically with doxycycline or azithromycin while awaiting specific test results. Partner treatment is advised.
Full guide on NGU →Bacterial vaginosis (BV) / Gardnerella
Oral or topical antibioticAn imbalance of vaginal bacteria, not strictly sexually transmitted but closely linked. Treatment is oral or topical metronidazole or clindamycin. Recurrence is common, so lifestyle guidance is included in consultation to reduce repeat episodes.
Full guide on BV →Herpes (HSV)
Antiviral suppression or episodicViral infection causing recurrent genital outbreaks. Treatment is antiviral medication (aciclovir or valaciclovir), either episodic during an outbreak or daily suppression if outbreaks are frequent. Cannot be cured, but effectively managed.
Full guide on herpes →Hepatitis B
Antiviral management for chronicViral liver infection that can progress to chronic disease. Chronic cases are managed with antiviral medication such as tenofovir or entecavir, with regular liver function monitoring. Vaccination is available for uninfected partners and close contacts.
Full guide on hepatitis B →Hepatitis C
Direct-acting antivirals, curableFormerly a chronic condition, now curable in most patients with direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) such as sofosbuvir/velpatasvir. Treatment course is 8 to 12 weeks. Cure is confirmed by undetectable viral load at 12 weeks post-treatment.
Full guide on hepatitis C →Trichomoniasis
Single-dose antibioticParasitic infection (protozoan) commonly seen in women and often asymptomatic. Treatment is a single oral dose of metronidazole or tinidazole, curable in one course. Partners must be treated simultaneously to prevent re-infection.
Full guide on trichomoniasis →Candida / thrush
Antifungal treatmentFungal infection, not strictly sexually transmitted but commonly mistaken for one. Treatment is a topical antifungal cream or a single-dose oral fluconazole tablet. Persistent or recurrent cases may require a longer course or partner treatment.

We're transparent about what's not available at our clinic:
- HPV wart removal (cryotherapy, electrocautery, topical treatment): not offered on-site. If you have genital warts, we can refer you to a specialist clinic for removal. Our role is diagnosis, supporting medication where relevant, and referral co-ordination.
- HIV treatment and ongoing management: not provided on-site. Mediway offers HIV testing; patients who test positive are referred to the DSC Clinic or an infectious-disease specialist for treatment and long-term care.
- Anti-cancer treatment for HPV-related cancers: always specialist-handled.
If your condition needs specialist care, we'll tell you upfront at your consultation and help co-ordinate the referral.

What to expect at your visit
Check in
Basement level, The Riverwalk. Private reception, so no one else sees why you're there.
Consultation
15–20 mins. Doctor reviews results, confirms diagnosis, discusses treatment options.
Prescription
Most bacterial STDs: treatment starts same day. Injectables administered on-site.
Follow-up plan
Retest timing, partner notification steps, any follow-up visits explained before you leave.
Total visit time: typically 30–45 minutes. Bring your test results (printed, PDF, or screenshot) if you tested elsewhere.
After treatment: follow-up, retesting, partner notification
Treatment doesn't end at prescription. Three things to plan for.
Test of cure (retest)
Bacterial STDs (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis, mycoplasma) should be retested 4 to 12 weeks after treatment completion to confirm clearance.
Viral STDs (herpes, hepatitis) are managed long-term with periodic monitoring rather than test-of-cure.
Partner notification
If you test positive, recent sexual partners should get tested. Mediway supports patient-driven partner notification:
We provide guidance on the conversation, sample wording, and a take-home information sheet your partners can bring to their own doctor. We keep your identity confidential. We do not contact partners directly.
MOH's DSC Clinic offers a government contact-tracing programme for some conditions if you'd prefer that route.
Complete your course
Finish the full antibiotic course even if symptoms improve early. Missing doses increases resistance and relapse risk.
If you miss doses or have side effects, message our team. Don't stop medication without guidance.
